10 Things to do when boarding your cat/dog whilst on holiday
1. Find a suitable cattery/kennel, ideally through word of mouth
2. Visit the establishment. Check for cleanliness, how the cat/dogs already there look and behave, the comfort of the pen.
3. Ask how the cat/dogs are housed and exercised, whether you can bring in food for the cat/dog and his or her own treats to minimize stomach discomfort.
4. Ask if they have a vet they can call if needed or if they can call your own vet.
5. Make sure that your cat/dog’s vaccinations are up to date (often a requirement anyway). If not, make sure that they are given a month before the their stay is due to allow for any reaction to the vaccination.
6. Check with your vet that your cat/dog is healthy and ,make sure that if your cat/dog is on medication and that there is ample supply whilst you are away.
7. Check your cat/dog for flea/tick and take preventative measures so the cat/dog is protected when in close proximity to other animals.
8. Take your pet in early and bring some of your cat/dog toys and a piece of clothing with your scent. Clearly mark bags of food and any items you bring so they will be identified for your cat/dog.
9. Leave your contact details with the establishment and confirm the length of stay.
10. It can be distressing leaving your cat/dog so do not linger ( as this could pass your anxiety on to the cat/dog).
